FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS for RENTAL
Light Tec is the Southwest's largest rental equipment house. We cater to professional image makers and are a resource for photographers, assistants, film makers, and videographers. These are the things you need to know to make your rental experience a great one.

Over the years, we’ve been asked some very interesting, peculiar, and mundane questions about the company, the products we sell, and the services we provide.  Here are a few of actual questions we are asked about rental (you get to choose in which category they fall).

Do you accept credit cards for payment?  Yes, American Express, Discover, VISA, MasterCard, and Diner's Club.

What do I need to rent from you?  A current driver’s license, one of the five major credit cards (not a debit, bank, or check card), and the completion and execution of our Lease Agreement and Rent Insurance forms.

Why can't I use my debit or bank or check card for the deposit?   The credit card you use for deposit must have a line of credit backing it in order to cover the value of the equipment you are renting.

Do I have to come in to do all the paperwork?  No.  We would be happy to fax you all the documents you need to complete or you can download them from the main Rental page in this web site.  However, we do need an executed copy of the lease agreement and rental insurance form plus a clear copy of both sides of the driver’s license and credit card prior to your reservation pickup.  Here again, you can either fax or mail or scan and e-mail these back to us.

How high do your 11-foot stands go?  Uh, for you, 10 feet, 12 inches.

What is a weekend rate?  Because we get to sleep late on Saturdays and Sundays, your weekend rate from Friday to Monday is only one day.  That makes us both happy.

I’m renting a 600mm f/4 lens to go to Africa on a safari.  Can I take it out of the country?  Yes, with the appropriate carnet and insurance coverage.

What lens do I use to stop motion?  You don’t.  The lens doesn’t stop motion, your lights do.

I’m on the job.  How do I use this camera? Uh… we need to talk!

Do you rent an autofocus 8x10 camera?  Uh, not at this time.

How come you take reservations so far in advance?  We take reservations up to two years in advance because many sports, wedding, or event shooters are booked at least a year in advance.

Do I have to make separate reservations each time I need something?  No, we are happy to have you send a list of the dates and equipment you need on each date in advance.

Can I buy your rental equipment?  No.  Maybe.  Yes.  Sorry, but all three answers are correct.

 - No,
you can’t buy my rental equipment.  We do not add rental equipment and then sell it as new or used in a short period of time.  Our agreement with our vendors regarding rental equipment is that it will remain for a minimum of 1 to 2 years in rental inventory.  Your Lease Agreement indicates that you are only renting the equipment; there is no offer to purchase it by your rental use.

 - Maybe, you can buy my rental equipment.  But, only under certain circumstances.

 - Yes, you can buy my rental equipment.  Sometimes, a manufacturer or supplier will introduce new equipment with more features and we will eventually sell the older models.  Sometimes, the manufacturer stops supporting parts inventories so we are unable to properly maintain our equipment and we will sell it.  Sometimes, a manufacturer or supplier will go out of business.

Depending upon the equipment, we will selectively offer it for sale.  There will be no warranty (on an as-is basis), the equipment will be in working order, and the user will know about its limitations (if any).
